Using MKS viw with Visual Studio
MKS viw can be used with Visual Studio as either the default editor or a non-default editor. When it is the default editor, opening any applicable file type from either the Solution Explorer dialog or the File Open dialog or using New File places the file in a viw window.
When viwis not the default editor, the standard Visual Studio editor is used unless you right click on the files in the Solution Explorer dialog, select Open With and then select MKS Viw as your editor. When using File New, you must also use Open With to use viw with the new file if viw is not the default editor.
You can also use the Open With dialog to set or unset viw as the default editor for any file type.
Differences Between Standard Editor and MKS viw for Visual Studio
The following differences exist between using viw and the standard editor with Visual Studio:
-
viw does not support outlining or collapsing of functions, etc. in the editor window.
-
viw does not support variable or function name completion or popup lists. As well, it does not support the mouse rollover display of debugging information.
-
viw does not use a horizontal scroll bar; instead, it wraps long lines around the screen.
-
The standard editor prevents you from making changes to a file unless it has been checked out but viw lets you to change, but not save, a file that is not checked out.
Differences Between MKS viw for Visual Studio and Normal viw
The following differences exist between using MKS viw for Visual Studio and the normal standalone version of viw:
-
The quit Ex command does not work in MKS viw for Visual Studio. Click the X in the upper-right corner to close the window or select Close File or Exit from the File menu.
-
The normal viw menu items are not present in MKS viw for Visual Studio. Instead, use the standard File menu options to open, save, and close files; use the Edit menu for finding and cut and paste. The Tools|Options dialog contains options for Fonts and Colors.
